Once you’ve enjoyed your relaxing evening and slept soundly in your room, you will wake up to the smell of coffee wafting through the inn and muffins baking or bacon sizzling. A gourmet breakfast awaits you, always featuring the best local produce in season and as many fresh, local ingredients as are available. A sample breakfast might include locally roasted and freshly brewed coffee, a selection of fruit juices, morning glory muffins still warm from the oven, and an egg frittata filled with zucchini and tomatoes from our garden, served with crispy bacon on the side. If that isn’t enough to fill you up, add on a bowl of fresh fruit topped with yogurt! Now you are ready to start your day of sightseeing or lounging at Silver Beach!

A Credit Card deposit is required at the time your reservation is booked at our St. Joseph, Michigan inn. 50% of your room charges for multiple nights or the entire rate plus taxes for a single night stay.
We currently accept gift cards issued by The Painted Turtle Inn and Lake to Lake Bed and Breakfast Association. To purchase a Painted Turtle Inn gift card, please click on the link at the top of this page and your card will be shipped out within 24 hours of purchase via USPS First Class Mail.
To redeem your gift card, you must provide a credit card deposit as outlined above (see “Deposits” section) when making your reservation. Once your gift card is redeemed at check-in, we will credit back any overpayment to the credit card on file. There will be no cash refunds allowed when redeeming gift cards from any source.
We offer limited group booking availability. Please contact an innkeeper directly via phone or email if you wish to book more than two rooms for your party. We reserve the right to refuse group bookings of three or more rooms if an innkeeper has not been contacted prior to making a reservation.
Reservations cancelled more than 14 days prior to arrival will be refunded in full, less a $30 service charge. Reservations cancelled within 14 days of arrival will forfeit deposit. However, we do offer a one-time courtesy change where your balance, when paid in full, may be applied toward a future stay within one year. No refunds will be allowed after changing date of reservation. No-shows and shortened stays will be charged full amount of reservation with no refunds or date changes allowed. Cancellations made within 24 hours of arrival day will not be eligible for credit towards a future stay; deposit will be forfeited.
When booking all five rooms, reservations must be cancelled 30 days prior to arrival to allow a refund, less a 10% service charge. Reservations of all five rooms cancelled within 30 days of arrival will forfeit the deposit with no refunds or date changes allowed.
Check-in and Check-out:
Check-in time is 4-6pm Eastern Time. Early or late check-in is subject to availability and with prior arrangement made by telephone at least 48 hours in advance. A non-refundable fee of $25/hour may be charged for this service at the time of request. We regret we are unable to accommodate early luggage drop off.
Check-out time is 11 am Eastern Time. Late check-out is subject to availability and with prior approval by the innkeeper at least 24 hours in advance. A non-refundable fee of $35/hour will be charged at the time of the request. We regret we cannot store luggage or other parcels after check-out time.
Per Michigan state law and our insurance restrictions, there is no smoking or any open-flame candles allowed on the premises of The Painted Turtle Inn. A $250 cleaning fee will be assessed for violations of this policy.
Children and additional guests per room:
Children ages 13 and up are welcome to stay with an adult and prior notice.
Room rates are based on single or double occupancy per room. The Vintner’s Retreat is the only room that can accommodate up to 2 additional guests. Any additional guests in this room will be charged an additional fee of $35 each per night. We may be unable to honor a reservation if we have not been notified of an additional person in the room prior to arrival.
While we do have personal pets that live on property, we unfortunately cannot accommodate guest pets at our inn. While our dogs may make a quick trip through the common areas of the Inn when going outside, our pets are confined to our personal living quarters and the outdoor areas of the property; they are most definitely not allowed into the guest rooms at any time. Please contact us for recommendations on pet boarding in the area if you will be traveling with your pets.
Rates and policies are subject to change especially on holidays and during special events.
Posted rates do not include 6% Michigan use tax plus $1 per night Michigan Lake to Lake room assessment. Rates include daily housekeeping and on-site management.
